The TL;DR Version: What you buy at Nekadu Shop is under copyright and comes with a digital licensing agreement. Take the time to read it because when you make a purchase, it is not refundable, not exchangeable, and you cannot resell it nor give it to another person without violating assorted copyrights from stock photographers, models, and other humans involved in the production of the design.
Thank you for considering Nekadu Shop for your book cover design needs. I’ve created an extensive catalog of covers in a wide variety of genres and add to inventory each week. The store is set up to facilitate easy purchase, with product information for every item. If you have any questions not covered on this page or my Terms of Service, please do send a message! I answer emails Monday through Friday within a few hours, and occasionally on weekends in the afternoon.
I am required by California law to inform the customer that I offer products under a ‘digital license’ – this means you do not own the copyright to the design, only that you have an extended (perpetual) license to use it for the life of your book cover. The premades on this site use purchased stock photography, and sometimes under a creative commons license from Unsplash (I have an account with them and try to donate images) or NASA.
Where indicated, I also use Daz 3D and, in the future, will have premades made ‘from scratch’ that will fall under the same licensing agreement.
Every product listed for sale in the story that you can purchase features an automatic digital download. You’ll have immediate access to download your file one time, within a period of three days. This is ideal for the author or small press designing their typography. Please bear in mind as this is a digital download, there are no refunds or exchanges. Every designed offer includes a coupon code for a print edition, if you so choose to do so later down the road. Each offer is good for the duration of 2026. You must make a purchase in order to claim the offer.
If you wish to make minor changes to the design as described on the product’s page, there’s a window of five business days where I will make those changes at no charge.
It’s better to purchase the design and request the changes, including any additional fees that may incur than it is to contact me and ask to see what those changes would look like if implemented. I do not place products on hold, they are available to anyone, at anytime on a first come-first served basis.
Quick Rundown Upon Purchasing The Premade
What can you do with your design? Keep reading!
Upon Purchase You Can
- Use image overlays – such as sale notices, ‘now available’, or in use of animated promos.
- Create promotional and giveaway items of the entire design or major elements of the design for promotional use only. This covers bookmarks, mugs, t-shirts, etc.
- Create materials of the entire design or major elements of the design for promotional use covering: bookmarks, mugs, t-shirts, etc.
- Make minor color adjustments: convert to grayscale, or color changes that do not reduce the quality of the image.
- Duplicate the image and change color theme for episodic/serialized content on your website, or in e-book format across all publishing platforms.
You Cannot:
- Create materials such as bookmarks, mugs, t-shirt, etc to offer for sale. You must purchase an extended license from the stock company or photographer first.
- Add another image onto the cover and repurpose as a ‘new’ design for any purpose or intent. (including mock-ups)
- Claim copyright, or register the design for copyright.
What is not included with purchase.
- PSD ‘layered’ files. You can use the final, downloaded JPG to create a smart object if you are a small publisher or established author and prefer this format.
- Any Design Elements Separated from the cover: Including frames, ornaments, and glyphs: They are embedded into the artwork file, and become part of the design.
- Fonts: I purchase font licenses from design resources websites such as Font Bundles, or Creative Market. I can use the font to create your book’s typography and ‘flatten’ it onto the cover. I can also provide PNGs for your books’ interior title page, but I cannot send you the actual font file and, I can give you the font’s name and where I purchased it so you can buy the license.
Other Information
Purchased pre-mades will continue to be displayed as-is with a ‘Sold’ overlay until your book sees publication, after which a copy of your published book will be placed in my portfolio. (with the typographer credited if indicated.)
